Gerard Stier, a 20-year Hudson Place Realty veteran, has distinguished himself several times as the firm’s top annual producer. Uniquely, Gerard has a long list of clients who’ve become friends as well as a long list of friends who’ve become clients.
“I’ve done business with most of my clients at least twice. And - while I’m proud of my success as well as my market and industry knowledge - I’m most proud of my high rate of return clients. I believe my repeat business is as high as it is because of my facilitator perspective: I’m there to help my clients fulfill their goals. I’m not out to do anything but assist them. Essentially, I treat every client as a friend.”
Gerard is part of a family of realtors active in Nantucket, Miami, and the Dominican Republic. Prior to launching his real estate career, he worked in the investment industry as a stockbroker, foreign exchange broker, and manager of quality assurance at Pershing, the investment clearinghouse. “ I learned a great deal in my earlier career about personal finance as well as client relations. Both disciplines have served me well in real estate. One embodies fiscal know-how and the other is all about credibility, integrity, and trust as well as accessibility and communications.”
A graduate of Morristown Beard High School and Ohio Wesleyan University, where he majored in International Business, Gerard also studied in Florence, Italy. “I’d like to say Italy is where I developed an interest in cooking, but it was actually at home in New Jersey. My father – who had learned from his mother – was a chef by hobby, and I learned from him. Creating new dishes is my forte and serves as my creative outlet.”
Gerard also takes pleasure in wine, golf, and visiting the Dominican Republic and Montauk – which he’s been visiting since he was 9. And he has fond memories of working for Yogi Berra while in middle school. “ Yogi, a family friend, hired me to handle buckets of his fan mail. Just being around him made the work a non-job.”
Comments from just a couple of Gerard’s clients:
“Working with Gerard was a fantastic experience. He is extremely knowledgeable about the Hoboken real estate market, both with respect to properties and all of the people involved in completing a transaction. He provided excellent recommendations on home inspectors, real estate attorneys, and even landscapers. Gerard listened to our needs in-home and sought out the best properties for us to go see. Once we found a place, he helped make the purchase go smoothly. We cannot recommend Gerard highly enough as a real estate agent.”

“ Finding Gerard was a lucky coincidence for my wife and me. We’d just begun our search in person after a few months of trawling listings online. We made appointments with a few brokers for individual listings we’d seen online. The first few we met with ranged from moderately disinterested in us to sleazy. Finally, on our last scheduled visit for the day, we met with Gerard and saw the property that had led us to him. He was very knowledgeable, both about that specific property and about the market in Hoboken. After the showing, he even went so far as to walk us back to our car a few blocks away. My wife and I immediately felt we had found somebody we could trust.
We decided to work with Gerard for the rest of our search. In the weeks that followed, Gerard met with us every weekend, updating us with new listings before they were available on public websites and working with our schedule to show us everything we found interesting. We were outbid 2 or 3 times along the way on various properties, but every time Gerard was extremely helpful by explaining the usual process involving competing bids. When the other bidder was prepared to pay more than we were, Gerard quickly identified new listings we would also like and arranged to show them to us. In the end, the property we bought was more what we wanted than any of the previous ones, and it was also less expensive
In addition to being knowledgeable, trustworthy, and willing to work with our schedules, Gerard was also very friendly and easy to work with. Riding around all day with a stranger can sometimes be awkward, but Gerard was quite personable and filled us in with lots of useful and interesting details about life in Hoboken. Towards the end of our process, we even met him and some of his friends for drinks and exchanged phone numbers with them. We truly feel like we have already made some friends in Hoboken, and there is no question in our mind that we will engage Gerard again when the time comes to sell our condo
I would strongly recommend Gerard to anyone looking at buying in Hoboken - he knows the market well and is as trustworthy and helpful as they come.”
“ Dear Gerard, Thank you for being the world's best realtor.”
